Coach Megan

It’s back to school for a lot of kids in Kentucky this week.  Today we hear from a second young blogger, the newest member of Team Have At It.  She gives us the inside scoop on what it is like to have Megan as a coach 😉

Hi everyone! My name is Sydney Blackburn, and I guess you could say that I’m the newest member of Team Have At It! Have you ever felt like the only person around you that doesn’t get it or think your crazy for not being like everyone else? Well, when your favorite phase of eventing is dressage you do!

I just didn’t get how people LOVED to jump! I mean I was TERRIFIED of going much higher than 2’3” in stadium. Cross-country? Don’t even ask. Then when we left the barn that we were at, I needed to have some lessons until we found something permanent. Some friends of ours told us to call Megan Lynn, so we did. She told us that she could give me a few lessons before she had to leave for Florida! That sounded perfect, just enough time to find someone “permanent”. Needless to say that was not the case. So we waited the winter out until Megan got home!

While waiting my horse went a little crazy on us, and developed some bad habits. Nope, I wasn’t getting on that crazy beast. My plan was sell him and I will stick with our pony until something sane came along. Well that didn’t happen either, because Megan said she wanted to try and work with him!

I can now say that was definitely one of the best decisions I have ever made! She worked a MIRACLE, because Maddox is one of my best friends (second to Megan of course)! Megan is an incredible coach who doesn’t take no for an answer! I am not afraid to jump anymore at all, and dressage is no longer my favorite! I do enjoy it, just not as much as cross-country! She has taught me so much and how to get over my nerves and just do it! This show season so far has been a blast, but it’s not over yet!:)

Being her student isn’t easy, and I have to work HARD for everything. It has taught me that nothing in this sport is just handed to you. You don’t just wake up one day and magically everything becomes easy, but I have learned that working through the tough things or those days where nothing goes right are what help mold you into who you are! I have gotten to meet some pretty cool people and ride some awesome horses, and I couldn’t thank Megan enough for what she has done for me! Megan and her family and friends are such a blessing to me, and I love each and every one of them to death! If you are blessed enough to know Megan and her family consider yourself extremely lucky. So to sum everything up getting to work with Megan all the time is incredible, and I love every minute of it!

Thanks for reading,

Sydney
