I’m Back!

Hi! I’m back! I’m so glad it’s still summer break. Here’s an update on what’s been going on. The KJRA Finals went really good. I won 2 belt buckles!! One was for Dummy Roping Division 1B (which is grades 3, 4 and 5) and the other was a Hardest Worker buckle for raising a lot of money in sponsorships (at least $1000). I won a medal for 6th place in Goat Tying for division 1B and a really cool saddle pad that I use on my calf horse Hollywood. Finals was fun and I had a great time! My family and I really appreciate the sponsorship from Kentucky Performance Products, and my other sponsors, because it helped KJRA to give out awesome awards at Finals.

Right before Finals there was a roping clinic put on at my house by Bob Loosenort. He is a really good calf roper and the owner of Hollywood, the horse I rode. The clinic was for junior rodeo kids who wanted help with their swing, throw, flanking, tying, their horse’s position, breakaway roping and even some chute dogging. Bob is also a steer wrestler so he helped some of the kids chute dog a steer. I tried that before, it’s not easy! Right after the clinic I tied down my first calf off Hollywood! I think that video even made it on Facebook. They are really slow small Jerseys and they are very gentle and don’t try to maul me or kick me, which I like.

I’d really like to teach Yogi to be a roping pony and I have been working on it with my dad. I like roping off Yogi because I can see the calf better, but Yogi can be kinda lazy and not want to get close enough to it. One time my mom rode him to make him go faster, that was kinda funny. Sometimes Gary (my fainting goat) comes to the arena for practice and watches.

Besides practicing, playing with friends and visiting family in Michigan, I’ve been to 3 SIJRA (Southern Indiana Junior Rodeo Association) rodeos in Salem, IN this summer too. I took Yogi and I like going to them, even if it is very hot (they have snow-cones)!!

See ya,

Caden Talip
