Wacky Winter Weather – Horse Blanketing Tips
This crazy weather makes blanketing a real challenge. Blankets on, blankets off. Light, medium, heavy. Hood, no hood. Oh my!
Here is a great rule of thumb to follow when choosing the right blanket weight. Remember to take wind chill into consideration if your horse lives outside.
- When temps fall within the range of 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit, use a lightweight blanket.
- When temps fall within the range of 40 to 50 degrees, use a medium-weight blanket.
- When temps fall within the range of 30 to 40 degrees or below, use a heavyweight blanket.
If you turn your horse out in a blanket, be sure it is waterproof.
