Why choose Summer Games Plus electrolyte paste?
Summer Games Plus is unique. It contains a blend of ingredients that buffer excess gastric acid, coat the sensitive lining of the stomach, and replenish the electrolytes and trace minerals depleted when horses sweat. This dual-action formula helps to maintain healthy electrolyte levels and support normal stomach pH so horses perform better, recover faster, and remain healthier.
Originally developed for Olympic athletes
Summer Games Plus electrolyte paste’s research-proven electrolyte formulation was originally developed for the horses competing at the 1996 Olympic Games. Summer Games Plus mimics the composition of equine sweat, supplying the horse with the same amounts and ratios of electrolytes and minerals depleted during sweating.
Summer Games Plus also contains buffering and coating agents that help maintain a healthy gastric environment, reducing the incidence of stomach irritation and ulceration.
- Available in a handy single-dose tube
- Buffers excess gastric acid, supporting healthy stomach pH and coats sensitive gastric membranes
- Keeps horses drinking and hydrated
- Supports optimal performance and short recovery periods after exercise by replenishing electrolytes
Summer Games Plus Paste is recommended for:
Electrolyte supplementation is indicated anytime a horse sweats repeatedly in a day or consistently over the course of several days, regardless of season.
Electrolyte supplementation is recommended:
- Year-round for horses that exercise routinely
- Anytime an idle horse sweats due to stress or weather
- For horses of all ages that are in training and competing
- When horses sweat during shipping or trailering
- During cold weather to stimulate drinking
Always provide access to clean, fresh water when supplementing electrolytes.
Do not offer electrolytes to a horse that is unable or unwilling to drink water without first consulting a veterinarian.
Maintaining the proper balance.
The primary electrolytes we are concerned with in equine nutrition are sodium (Na), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), potassium (K), and chloride (Cl). Electrolytes in the correct ratios play a significant role in supporting hydration (thirst response), muscle function, and the cellular water balance within your horse’s body. When your horse’s electrolytes are out of balance, problems occur.
Each 60cc tube of Summer Games Plus provides:
Calcium (min.) 0.4%, 0.2 g (200 mg)
Calcium (max.) 0.8%, 0.5 g (500 mg)
Phosphorus (min.) 0.4%, 0.2 g (200 mg)
Salt (min.) 45.0%, 27 g (27,000 mg)
Salt (max.) 50.0%, 30 g (30,000 mg)
Sodium (min.) 15.0%, 9 g (9,000 mg)
Sodium (max.) 20.0%, 12 g (12,000 mg)
Magnesium (min.) 0.4%, 0.2 g (200 mg)
Potassium (min.) 9.0%, 5 g (5,000 mg)
Summer Games Plus electrolyte paste provides buffering and coating agents that help to maintain normal gastric (stomach) pH by neutralizing excess gastric secretions. It supports gastric comfort by coating the sensitive tissues in the stomach.
Summer Games Plus paste contains minimal sugar. It is a concentrated source of the electrolytes and trace minerals commonly lost in equine sweat.
Serving and Storage
Always provide free-choice, clean water to horses receiving electrolyte supplementation. Do not offer electrolytes to a horse that cannot or is unwilling to drink without first consulting a veterinarian.
60cc tube = 1 oz of Summer Games Electrolyte
Summer Games Plus can be used as a daily supplement. Because of its concentrated formula, it is easy to adjust the level of supplementation to meet your horse’s individual needs. The amount of supplementation will depend on the level of work and the intensity of the heat and humidity the horse is working in.
|Level of work
||Normal Environment (oz/day)
||Hot, Humid Environment (oz/day)
Administer no more than 2 tubes in a single offering.
Below are guidelines that will help you to estimate the level of exercise your horse is doing. Always take temperature and humidity levels into consideration when supplementing with an electrolyte. Horses will sweat more in hot, humid climates. When it is very dry or cold, sweat may evaporate quickly and be less noticeable.
Guidelines for determining workload level
Visible Sweat (up to 5 liters sweat loss)
For example: dressage, western and English pleasure, trail horses, equitation, etc.
Dripping Sweat (5-10 liters sweat loss)
For example: jumping horses, racehorses, barrel racing, cutting, roping, etc.
Dripping Sweat for Extended Periods (more than 10 liters sweat loss)
For example: upper level three-day event, western performance horses, polo ponies
Options for determining sweat loss
Electrolyte requirements can be determined by measuring sweat loss. Fluid loss can be estimated by measuring body weight loss with this simple formula: 1 kg (2.2 lb) body weight loss = 0.9 liters (approx. 1 quart) body water loss, so an 11-lb body weight loss = approximately 5 liters sweat loss (light work) = 2 oz per day of Summer Games Plus.
Weighing your horse before and after a work session can also give you some idea of how much weight or fluid loss has occurred.
Storage and shelf life:
Store Summer Games Plus in a cool, dry place. Protect from freezing and extreme heat. Shelf life is 24 months from date of manufacture when stored under suitable conditions.
