Hey, it is Taco here with an update!
As an equine athlete who has lived a full life, I have had my share of aches and pains. Lately I have been having more trouble than usual walking around and getting up from my nap. My humans tried the typical things to make me more comfortable, but they weren’t working as well as they had in the past.
In an effort to get to the bottom of my problem, my thought it best I have a full physical exam. I am a lucky horse to have a mom who loves me so much.
A few days later, I was introduced to a very nice lady vet named Dr. Jessica Gould from Hagyard Equine Medical Institute. She has been around the barn before, helping my barn mate Leo and my little brother Biggin, so she wasn’t a total stranger. She was very gentle and took her time to get to know me. She asked my mom a lot of questions and felt all over my body. I really liked her.
It is hard for us horses because we can’t tell our humans where it hurts, although we try to give lots of clues. The problem with me was that when my humans watched me walk around, the first impression was that I had pain in my back, but really, my biggest problem was in my neck. That smart Dr. Gould figured it out in no time at all.
To confirm her suspicion and show my mom where the problem was, she took some x-rays of my neck. When she showed us the images, it was very clear what my problem was. Arthritis! My poor neck bones looked gnarly.
Dr. Gould recommended some neck injections and planned to return later in the week to do them. My mom also started giving me Elevate W.S. natural vitamin E to help support my healthy nerve and muscle functions.
I don’t remember much after Dr. Gould poked me with a needle the following Sunday. At that point I didn’t care what they did to me. In fact, I didn’t have a care in the world. I think I slept through most of the procedure.
Later when I woke up in my stall, my neck felt a little funny, but it didn’t hurt as much. The next day I felt even better! And today I felt so good I had a nice roll, hopped up and convinced my good friend Ginger pony to run and buck with me!
I still have some aches and pains, but my neck sure feels a lot better.
In the photo, this is Dr. Gould discussing my X-rays with me and my mom.
