Equine Joint Research Update

A joint research project conducted by the University of Kentucky and Michigan State University discovered that while the co-administration of NASIDs and vaccines might reduce the incidence of an adverse reaction, it also reduces the horse’s response to the vaccine. In the study, NSAIDs reduced both the antibody and cellular immune response to a commercially available influenza vaccine. This lack of response by the horse could result in the need for more frequent vaccinations to ensure adequate protection. Be sure to consult with your veterinarian before administering NSAIDS at vaccination time.
