How to Keep Those Muzzles On
Got a horse in your barn that can get out of anything you put on his head? You are not alone.
Here are a few suggestions on how to make sure that muzzle stays in place (and we bet you have more tips).
- Get a muzzle that fits snugly, and use fleece to cover any area that might rub and irritate your horse. Put it on as tight as you can.
- Add a breakable brow band and throat latch to the muzzle to help reduce “rub offs.”
- Thread your muzzle’s strap through a leather halter; you can even tie the top of the muzzle basket to the noseband of the halter (just put a hole in the muzzle basket and thread a piece of leather of baling twine through it). It is a lot harder to get the entire unit off, this way.
