Product Description

Why choose Joint Armor?

Joint Armor’s complete formula provides your horse with the nutrients necessary to support both healthy joint cartilage and synovial fluid.

The goal is to maintain healthy joint tissue

In healthy joints, the ends of the bones are coated with a thin layer of friction-reducing tissue known as articular cartilage. The articular cartilage contains synovial fluid, a thick liquid that serves two primary functions: (1) as a source of nutrients for the articular cartilage and (2) as a lubricant and shock absorber for the bones that form a joint. Lameness can result when damage occurs to any joint tissue, whether it involves the bones, articular cartilages, or synovial membranes.

Research has shown that when used in combination, hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulfate, glucosamine, and manganese sulfate support cartilage structure and optimal joint function. Horses with healthy joints feel better, perform to their potential, and stay sounder longer.

FAQ

  • Is it really necessary to have chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine in a joint supplement?

  • While each of these ingredients will affect joint health to some degree on their own, they work much more effectively when used together.

Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are key nutrients necessary for normal joint function. Glucosamine is used as a substrate for certain components of the cartilage matrix, while chondroitin sulfate plays an important role in controlling the enzymes associated with inflammation and tissue destruction.

Studies using equine cartilage explants (small pieces of actual living tissue) have shown these ingredients complement each other in inhibiting the production of inflammatory cells. Interestingly, when these ingredients were used independently of each other, they did not show similar benefits (Orth et al., 2002; Schlueter and Orth, 2004; DeChant et al., 2005).

  • Can a joint supplement cure my horse’s arthritis?

  • The damage done by arthritic changes cannot be reversed, so a joint supplement will not cure your horse’s arthritis. However, a well-formulated joint supplement helps protect cartilage against the damage caused by inflammation. The maintenance of healthy synovial fluid supports soundness by lubricating the joint and acting as a shock absorber for the bones that form the joint. Joint Armor is a complete joint supplement that includes a combination of hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulfate, glucosamine, and manganese sulfate. It supports both the cartilage matrix and synovial fluid.

You might also explore adding Contribute omega-3 fatty acids to your horse’s diet. Omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties proven to help relieve inflammation in arthritic horses.

  • How is hyaluronic acid different from glucosamine and chondroitin?

  • Hyaluronic acid (HA) is an integral component of synovial fluid and articular cartilage, and is responsible for lubrication of the joint surfaces. While glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate work mainly as the building block for cartilage, HA is more beneficial to the joint fluid, which nourishes the joint and provides shock absorbing properties.

Joint Armor is a complete joint supplement that includes a combination of hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulfate, glucosamine, and manganese sulfate. It supports both the cartilage matrix and synovial fluid.

  • My barn manager told me I have to give my horse more joint supplement when I first start feeding it to him. I was wondering why.

  • Research has shown us that horses do not easily absorb the ingredients found in joint supplements. Not only do adequate amounts need to be fed to ensure that enough is being absorbed, but a “loading” dose is recommended for horses that have never been on a joint supplement before. We recommend you feed 14 grams of Joint Armor for the first 3 to 4 weeks and then reduce the dose to 7 grams thereafter.

  • I have a picky eater. How do I know he will eat Joint Armor?

  • Joint Armor has a great vanilla taste and aroma that horses like. It does not contain a lot of fillers; therefore, you only have to feed 7 grams, which is a small amount. It mixes easily into a concentrate meal. If you aren’t feeding grain, mix it into your horse’s soaked beet pulp or alfalfa pellets.

  • My horse is young. Does he need a joint supplement?

  • Horses of all ages can benefit from a joint supplement. Healthy tissues are better able to protect themselves against the damage resulting from normal daily wear and tear. The maintenance of healthy synovial fluid supports soundness by lubricating the joint and acting as a shock absorber for the bones that form the joint.

Joint Armor is a complete joint supplement that is very cost effective. One jar is a 75-day supply of the ingredients your horse needs to support optimal joint health. At the maintenance level, it costs less than a dollar a day to feed.

  • My horse had an OCD removed and after the surgery my vet suggested I put her on a joint supplement that includes hyaluronic acid. Why?

  • Hyaluronic acid (HA) is an integral component of synovial fluid and articular cartilage, and is responsible for lubrication of the joint surfaces. While glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate work mainly on the cartilage, HA is more beneficial to the joint fluid. In a study conducted by Bergin and coworkers (2006), oral HA was effective in reducing synovial effusion (an abnormal collection of fluid) following arthroscopic surgery for removal of osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) lesions in joints.

  • How does Joint Armor compare with other leading brands?

  • Unlike other joint supplements, Joint Armor contains adequate levels of the four essential ingredients (glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate, hyaluronic acid, and manganese sulfate) that research has shown to support healthy joint tissue. Because Joint Armor is concentrated, you only need to feed 7 grams a day, which means one jar of Joint Armor will last one horse over two months (75 days). Joint Armor offers your horse the support he needs at a price you can afford.

Ingredients

Complete joint support formula.

Joint Armor is scientifically formulated to provide the four most essential elements for joint health: glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate, hyaluronic acid, and manganese sulfate. While other products include one or two of these ingredients, Joint Armor provides all four elements at therapeutic levels, all for the price of one supplement.

Joint Armor includes:

Per  7 g scoop

Glucosamine HCl …………………2,500 mg

Glucosamine sulfate ……………2,500 mg

Chondroitin sulfate ……………..1,200 mg

Hyaluronic acid ……………………..100 mg

Manganese sulfate ………………..100 mg

Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate

Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are key nutrients necessary for maintenance of normal joint function. Glucosamine is used as a substrate for certain components of the cartilage matrix, while chondroitin sulfate plays an important role in controlling the enzymes associated with inflammation and tissue destruction. Numerous studies have documented the benefits of combining these two ingredients to joint health.

Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate have been evaluated in several field studies. In a double-blind placebo-controlled study (Hanson et al., 2001), 14 horses with progressive forelimb lameness showed significant improvement (evaluated by lameness specialists using standardized lameness scores) when administered a treatment of glucosamine and chondroitin for a 28-day treatment period when compared with the control group. In a more recent study (Rodgers, 2006), administration of glucosamine and chondroitin significantly decreased the necessity and frequency of intra-articular therapeutic injections of the hock joints in working show hunters and jumpers.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is an integral component of synovial fluid and articular cartilage, and is responsible for lubrication of the joint surfaces.

Manganese Sulfate

Manganese is an important cofactor in the formation of the cartilage matrix and synthesis of connective tissue.

I chose KPP over others because of the research behind the products. Working in veterinary medicine you really come to realize the importance of this. A lot of money gets wasted on products off the shelf at the local feed stores. I wanted to make sure what I’m putting into my horses is of highest quality & KPP products definitely are!

I’ve been using the summer games electrolytes for the last year or so and then recently swapped my western dressage & cow horses over to the joint armor & contribute. Astounding results! My horses are moving beautifully, more impulsion & suspension in their gaits! Their recovery after a heavy workout or long weekend is improved as well. Overall I feel their happier and healthier now they are on KPP.

  2. Betsy MacFarlane

This supplement has made a significant visible difference in my 5yo OTTQH mare! She has been “pokey” in her movement with very little suspension and impulsion. At times cranky when asked to move out. She was recently diagnosed with mild arthritis in one hock and both front fetlocks. My vet recommend I try Joint Armour. After 10 days, I couldn’t believe the difference! She is now floating across the arena and willingly forward with impulsion and suspension! I am THRILLED! She is happier too, ears up and a soft eye. Thank you for such a great product! I love when I find a great product that I can confidently recommend to my clients as well.
