The Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid (aka sodium hyaluronate or hyaluronan) is found naturally in your horse’s synovial fluid, which is the fluid contained in movable joints. Hyaluronic acid is responsible for making synovial fluid viscous and lubricating the joint surfaces. Under normal conditions, the synovial membranes produce enough hyaluronic acid to protect the joint, but when repeated wear and tear from exercise takes place the depletion of hyaluronic acid can lead to increased inflammation, and the breakdown of joint surfaces. When feeding a joint supplement, look for one that contains 100 mg of hyaluronic acid.
