    One thing they don’t mention is a “straw rug”

    Put an appropriate weight rug on the horse and then loosely stuff straw or hay between the blanket and the horse’s back. This increases the insulation layer while giving the sweat a place to evaporate to.

    Obviously the horse still needs to be walked until respiration rate is normal or turned out into a sheltered spot where they can freely move around – large stall, inside round pen, etc
